Washing machine woes

We seem to have been using about 70 litres of water a day, which is good. Today I needed to do some washing. Mike was going out so after gym, I gathered all the dark clothes and made up a big load. The washing machine was full. I turned it onto the quick wash and heard it start, but very little water went into it. Then it stopped and just turned. That was odd. The clothes were going round and round but were dry. I thought maybe the water pressure was too low, so I thought it would work if I added some water. I got half a bucket of  water from the kitchen (when we do the dishes we catch the water before it heats up) and I poured a couple of (okay maybe a few) jugs of water into the washing machine. That looked better. At least the clothes were wet. I left it for a bit. Every time I came back it was turning one way, then stopping, then turning the other. It went on and on and on. Eventually, I thought it could possibly be too heavy, so I turned it off and took out a couple of things, including a towel. Then I left it again. Again it went on and on and on. Eventually – probably a couple of hours after we had begun – it stopped. The washing was sopping wet and 2-3 jugs of dirty laundry water overflowed out the door as I started taking the clothes out.

Lesson learned. Don’t add water to a front loader automatic washing machine. I took all the dripping laundry out, picked up the jug and started scooping the water back into a bucket. Then I used a cup. Then I used a cloth. Eventually, it was dry. I reloaded the laundry and turned it back on. It rinsed and spun and rinsed and spun and then stopped. Now the washing is on the line and almost dry! I have some white clothes to do, but I think I’ll hand wash them this time! What amazed me is just how dirty that water was. The washing machine certainly gets them clean.

I also cleaned the kitchen and started preparing linen for the family. Julian, his daughter Jess and son-in-law Gerrie all arrive tomorrow. Julian is staying with us while Jess and Gerrie will stay at Echo cottage. On Sunday, Stacey and Adrian arrive and they will be staying with us as well. Fun family days ahead.

After my 8k run yesterday, I got myself a blister, so today I toned it down a bit and ran 5km, but managed my best time.

This is on the treadmill – running with a motor beneath your feet, no wind and no hills. It doesn’t get easier than this.

When I got home and had a shower, ( side note: 22 litres of water per minute to shower – 6 litres of water to flush), I noticed my blister had turned into a massive oval blood blister. I could post a photo, but I will spare you…

It’s not sore, but it looks impressive!

There are many things in life that we take for granted.

#512 of my 1000 thanks is that I can read and write. This morning as I wrote something, I acknowledged the blessing of being able to read and write – it’s something I take entirely for granted.

Just a personal note to myself: today Mike had the lesion cut out of his back. Sent off to the lab. Should be a basal cell.

Psalm 138:8

The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your love, O Lord, endures forever.

Amen!

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
