Side Balcony!

Tuesday

Today was the day…

Of another 7 hour work day.

The workers came and to our joy, they have just about finished the side balcony. It needs another coat of paint but that’s about all.

Before…

15th February 2020…

And finally…

We will enjoy sitting out there. It’s protected from the sout-easter.

With no TV yet, we have been reading more and I’ve just finished a delightful book.

The author writes about many of his adventures in Cape Town. He walked extensively and describes in detail a long walk to Simon’s Town. And a horse ride to “Blettenberg Bay”. What obstacles they faced. The round trip took at least a month. Rivers to cross and mountains to clamber over. Wild life to avoid and worn out horses to feed. It made for entertaining reading, especially as they went through “Zwellendam”. What is amazing is that the names of so many places we know today had the same names back in 1805. Lion Head, Rogge Bay, Devil’s Hill,  Roben Island (his spelling), Hottentot Holland, Salt River and the Carroo (Karoo!) all make an appearance. On his penultimate page, he writes, “One word more. To an admirer of the sublime in Nature, few spots on the surface of the globe present such scenes as the Cape of Good Hope.”

I heartily agree! If these mountains that surround us could speak, they would have stories to tell.

Social media was all abuzz last night and today after a small earthquake occurred off the West Coast. It was a 3.5 magnitude tremor off Saldanha Bay but was felt in many areas across Cape Town. Apparently it lasted 10 seconds. I felt nothing.

Tomorrow Anne has chemo #4.
