Pottering

Friday

Dear Elsie

Last night we went to our very first pottery class.  It was interesting. I am very unartistic, but Granpa is the opposite. We learned the first thing we had to do was throw the clay to get rid of air bubbles.  Throwing the clay is something akin to anger management. You throw it onto a piece of calico with great force.

Once the air bubbles are largely out, you get to roll it out and create whatever you want. Last night we made numbers for the house and I found a dolphin template, so used that as well.

Mike bought home a chunk of clay planning on making a gecko! We’re thinking of going back next week. Now I know what is expected of me, I may branch out and go as far as actually making something. We left early last night because there was loadshedding and it was hard to see details. We’ll be more prepared next time.

For today, we went swimming early. I did something I’ve never done before but often thought of doing. I got in at Skellies pool and swam to the beach from there. My watch battery died but it did register that little bit. Getting out of Skellies was slightly harder than I thought it would be. It was high tide but there were still some rocks. Once I’d navigated those, swimming over the kelp was a challenge, but I soon got into the open sea and had a good swim to the barrel and then onto the beach.

Swimming always makes me hungry. This was what Mike made for lunch…

The day was glorious and when I spotted dolphins far out in the bay, I took our telescope out to get a closer look.

After 6 hours of work, Mike and I walked to Fish Hoek to get some salad ingredients. We went down steps we’d never been down before. Ballycline steps. We have walked up these but never down.

I’ve done something unusual for tomorrow and invited the cottage guests up for cappuccino at 9am.

Chill time.

Psalm 54:4
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
