It Felt & Smelt Like Christmas at the van Niekerk’s Today!

2-45pm

Christmas in July. We didn’t plan on it, but today, with Julian visiting from Jo’burg, this is the last Sunday main family gathering we will have for more than a year. Adrian & Stacey are fast approaching D-Day. They leave Cape Town for SE Asia in less than 2 weeks. And for their last few days in the Mother City, Mike & I will be away. Yesterday they bought round a frozen leg of lamb. I popped it into our slow cooker, completely frozen, turned it onto high and left it. In the evening, I turned it down to low and this morning we woke to the familiar smells of Christmas lunch! It was tender and absolutely delicious. It felt and smelt like Christmas.

The day was spectacularly sunny, just like a December day…

While I was on the balcony taking photos of the day, I took one of the front garden, freshly mowed by Boswell yesterday…

This morning while out on the balcony with Julian we also admired our driveway pattern! Fifteen or more years ago when we had the paving done, Mike insisted on this pattern which he designed. He chose it for what it would look like from the balcony…

Cool hey!

One of the fun things that happened today was regarding our plans to get away. Mike & I need a break! With Women’s Day (9th August) being our wedding anniversary, we’ve decided to go away for 4 days. Mike randomly said he would love to go to a certain place. We looked on Groupon for specials and couldn’t find anything that grabbed our attention. So Mike said, ‘humour me. Go onto Gumtree and look for self-catering accommodation at where I want to go.” So I did and believe it or not 21 hours previously someone had posted a cottage for R375 per night! We booked it and so that’s fixed!

Isaiah 65:24 says “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”

Now I just need to find out what restaurants in the area have wi-fi so I can keep my blog going. 4 nights away. 🙂 🙂 . Tomorrow, I need to phone to find a home for Granny for 4 nights. Tomorrow, I will also be taking her to the plastic surgeon to find out when she can have a malignant lesion cut out of her left cheek.

Stacey has got me knitting a scarf. Here’s me knitting and Julian chilling…

Just for fun, the owl(s) and the pussycat…

God bless you loads.

In His Grip,

Love Helga xx 🙂
