Today I ran 10km in 70 minutes, but for full disclosure, I have to admit that in order to get this done, I cheated. There are a couple of ways to cheat when you are running on a treadmill. One of them is to simply jump onto the sides of the deck, leaving the belt rotating while I caught my breath. So that’s what I did….several times! I was only cheating myself, of course, but on the other hand, I also felt it was for my own good. You can’t stay on the sides for too long, or else the treadmill will stop. The other way of making it easier is to hold onto the sides – supporting your body and being able to ‘run’ a little slower.
The other thing I did was paused it and went for a bathroom break. When I got back, I just started it again and continued from where I had left off.
So while I did run 10km, it probably took a minute or two longer than 70 minutes. I can’t even say I’m sorry because it most likely was for my own good.
After a quick shower, Mike and I drove to Fish Hoek and met Julian and David for breakfast.
On getting home, I rested and then got stuck into some work. After about an hour, Stacey called, so I stopped my work clock and we had a good natter. More work was done this afternoon.
This evening we went to friends who were having a party to celebrate their son’s marriage. He got married in Canada in January, so this was the Cape Town celebration. They had a beautifully decorated house including the tree outdoors where there were couches and a fire pit. It was a lovely evening.
#615 of my 1000 thanks is for no incidents of crime for 6 months. Alarms went off twice today…once at Echo Rd and once in the cottage at our house. Both were false alarms. The one at Echo was a perimeter alarm, so maybe a cat walked past. If it was a human, they would have had a near heart attack. The alarm is so loud. The one at our house today was caused by the cat climbing in through an open window. The wind had been blowing and the combination of moving curtains and the cat was enough to set it off. So glad it was only that!

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
