Happy Birthday Mike

Tuesday

Dear Elsie

Today is the day Grandpa turned 72! We are so excited about you coming on Friday, when we will celebrate again.

We had a lovely day together.  Mike does not have big needs. He wanted to lie in bed today and read the newspaper – something we haven’t done in a long time.

By the way, I found the cheapest place in Fish Hoek for croissants. It was 6:30am, so I went to Fresh Stop, Fish Hoek, which is on the Main Rd opposite Shoprite at the petrol station. As I walked in, the owner asked me if I’d like coffee! That was a surprise. I declined, but said it was my husband’s birthday and he wanted the newspaper to read. I picked up three croissants and the paper. The croissants were R4.50 each and the newspaper R12.50 – total cost R26!  I couldn’t believe the croissants were so cheap and they were fresh. Good to know!

Courage led a merry rendition of Happy Birthday!

We went to Chalk and Cheese for breakfast which was great. When we got home, the cottage guests had left, so we went and stripped the beds. I got all the washing done. Ruth came this afternoon and cleaned and the neighbours have moved in for a month. The neighbours rent the house next door and the owner is coming out from Germany for a month.

David bought Mike art classes! He also went online and bought a month of DSTV so the family can watch the cricket.

This afternoon we went across to the Blue Route and bought David a few gifts for tomorrow. With him heading to China in the next few weeks, big gifts are out of the question, but I found him something he may want to use when he gets there.

After we got home, I invited Graham up for a drink. It is his last night in the Seaview Apartment. We hope to have him back again during the course of the year.

And then there’s been dinner at home and a quiet evening.

A good birthday for Mike I think. We are so grateful for good health and lots of energy. I hope when I’m his age (5th November 2036!), I will be in the same state of health.

Psalm 57:5
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

Gran xx 🙂
