Getting To Know The Locals

Saturday

Today was the day…

Before sunset, I stood at my balcony door and shivered at the coldness of the wind. Hmm, I was fast losing enthusiasm at the idea of going for early morning swims. Maybe I wouldn’t be swimming through winter.  Then the sun rose …

And warmed everything up and soon we were on our way to the beach….

We pass a number of locals. There’s a guy with a big green rucksack that sits on the cat walk and writes copious amounts of words in little notebooks. Then there’s the artist who sometimes draws and other times just sits and smokes. This guy…

And then there are a number of the swimmers. One of them is Joe who has a lot of spare time on his hands and seems to be down at the beach on a regular basis, working his tan and chatting with other locals. He also likes to swim. The other day I was in the water and swam towards the shore to meet up with Mike. Joe was close by so I greeted him and he said it was colder than usual and he guessed 13C. I agreed it was cold and I added that I didn’t think Mike would be in for long. Then he said, “you need blubber for this kind of temperature.” Again I agreed and said “that’s something that Mike doesn’t have.” “Yes,” he concluded, “I noticed!”  Joe has the right kind of blubber!

We are getting to know the locals.

The rest of the day was varied. Mike and I moved some wood to under the house so it will be protected.  Then David came over and we made the starter for a dinner he is going to tonight.

And then I walked to Fish Hoek for milk, a pawpaw, fresh rolls and frozen yoghurt (that’s very precise!)

Mike hung pictures and is sorting out his office.

Meanwhile over in Swellendam, some puzzling is going on…such a big puzzle for an almost 3-year old! Elsie is such a good helper.

Such a cutie!

I’m going to do a bit of work now and then call it a day.

It’s the first day of May!

Psalm 68:4

Sing praises to God and to His Name.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
