From Durban

The Durban trip had a little hiccup in that when I got details of the hotel where the interviews would be held, I booked the cheapest room at that hotel and in doing so was bound into a non-changeable, non-refundable option! So imagine my horror when a few weeks after booking, we got notification that the interview venue was changed!  It is what it is. Fortunately, the new venue is 700m from this one.

Unbelievably, I had 2 empty seats on the flight here, meaning I could spread out put my legs up and really relax. We landed in rain, but by the time I left the terminal building for my shuttle into the city, it had stopped.

So my cheapest room is small but comfortable. It has good air quality and a good view…

After arriving, I went for a long walk in that direction. The beach is pretty clean. Some of the buildings are dated, but others have been renovated and are looking pretty modern. As you can see from the photo, it is not crowded. It was a lovely walk.  Before I set off in that direction, I walked the 700m to the interview venue and went to see where the interviews will take place. It took me 7 minutes, so I think instead of Ubering which I was planning to do tomorrow morning, I will walk.  I have never used Uber before. I have downloaded the app and I am all ready to pull the trigger on ordering one but just haven’t done it yet.  For the generation not yet born, an Uber is a taxi that you order on your cell phone. When you download the Uber app you attach credit/debit card details and when you order one, they tell you the cost, they come really quickly, informing you how far away they are and payment is automatic.  You order online, saying where you are and where you want to go and one magically appears. I must try it some time!

Every time I do these trips I marvel at the fact that I can. I just love it. How is it possible I ask myself (again) that I can get a job that I love as much as I loved radio presenting? Only God can do that. I must enjoy every moment.

I remembered a few of the things that haven’t come up on my list of 1000 thanks.

#207 of my 1000 thanks – the other day when I returned from Johannesburg, Julian simultaneously had to get to the airport in Cape Town to fly back to Jhb.  So he took our i10 to the airport, parked it in the P4 parking lot, threw the keys in the glove compartment with the parking ticket, locked the car and walked away to catch his flight. I took the spare set with to Jo’burg with me. When I landed at 9pm in Cape Town, I had to find the car, retrieve the parking ticket, pay and exit. And guess what? It all worked perfectly! Julian found an amazing parking spot very close to the paypoint. I was so grateful we all pulled it off!

#208 of my 1000 thanks is TWO empty seats next to me on the plane and I was row 3. The plane was not very full!

Psalm 40:4

Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord…

Life does go up and down, but God is a solid rock. He is completely trustworthy regardless of what happens.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
