Finding Significance

10-20am

Significance. Just one word. And a word that I haven’t thought about too much until recently. In years gone by, I may have interpreted ‘significance’ as the most important achievement in my life. What makes me significant? What is the biggest thing I have achieved in my life? When answering these lofty questions, my mind always wandeAngel on a cloudrs to what I have done to impact the next generation & what have I done to impact eternity? Many people, when they hear I am a radio presenter, they think that must be my biggest achievement. But by far the greatest thing I’ve ever done is have children. It is a miracle that a couple can create a new life – a person – a new creation – a blend of the two of us. The other day, I saw that someone had posted a Facebook status saying “I created a human being – what’s your superpower?” 🙂  Of course, because it is a miracle, it originates with God. He has done this great thing and we have been blessed with the honour of being the parents.  When I look at my (now adult) children, I am so amazed at the blend of Mike and I. Stacey so like her father in many ways, yet she resembles me. David, a personality just like mine, yet he looks so much like his Dad. That’s by far the greatest thing I’ve ever done.  If you are a parent, it’s the most impressive thing you’ve done as well! And that one thing automatically impacts the next generation AND it impacts eternity.

While looking for significance, someone once said to me, something like, “perhaps it’s not about my life and what I do – perhaps it’s about something the future generations will do.” Absolutely!  I’ve said it before that I pray for the generations to come. I pray for those who are not yet born and I pray for their spouses and their children and their children’s spouses. And as I do, I get emotional with the thought that perhaps 100 or 200 years ago, there was an ancestor of mine who prayed for me! I am now here! It doesn’t take much to impact eternity – pray! Praying takes you to a supernatural realm that is eternal.

So whether you have children or not, pray and  sow into the next generation. When we die, there will not be cell phones, computers or ipads. There will be people. Let them be the Trampmost important part of your life. Take time with them, even the poorest, and down-and-out. Oh boy, I speak to myself here – yesterday I ‘ignored’ the doorbell because there was someone asking for a handout! So bad!  I wonder how I can make myself see beyond the outward appearance. Actually, this very morning I read a Bible verse that proves this very point:  Samuel 16 vs 7:

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.”

I think we need to start looking at the things God looks at and finding significance in them. Quite a challenge! I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m happy to take the first step!

And I leave you with those thoughts today!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
