Covid-19 Test

Friday

Today was the day…

I had a Covid-19 test! I needed to get one because the hospital won’t admit me if I’m positive. I think Pathcare at Mediclinic Cape Town has an interesting strategy.  When you arrive, the waiting room is the car park…and not in your car. You walk to this undercover part of the car park and sit at a table. Yup. This was my view…

It was 12C out there. It had been raining. It was cold and very unpleasant. That was where I filled in the paperwork and waited for my turn. So miserable was it sitting out there, that when I had the test, the test was not as bad as the waiting in the cold, drafty car park.

The test itself takes about 20 seconds. The nice health care worker, Sue, explained the process and then took the long but narrow swab, inserted in my right nostril and down it went. She kept it there for about 5 seconds and then slowly took it out. Some people say it brings tears to your eyes, but I was fine. It was uncomfortable but over so quickly. One piece of advice I would give you: blow your nose before hand. Also, you may want to blow your nose after as well because there’s this weird sense of imbalance that one nostril has been tampered with (which it has) and blowing my nose after definitely made the lingering sensation disappear.

From there I went to the radiology department and had a CT scan of my maxilla. This also took about 30 seconds. It was in and out. A quick way to make R2300! Fortunately medical aid covers it.

On my way out of the hospital, I stopped at the entrance and filled in all the paper work for my admission on Wednesday. I paid the hospital the co-payment, signed the paperwork and now can arrive at 6:30am on Wednesday. I won’t have to sign anything else. They will give me my file and I’ll go straight to the ward.

So it was a profitable day at the hospital. On the way there, I had stopped in Claremont for my pre-op orthodontist visit. They’ve taken away my false tooth so I can have the implant done and from now until 6th July, I’ve got a gap…

I’ll have to take a bunch of pre-op photos because this ⬆⬆ is all going to change. They tell me I will notice but others won’t really. It’s a very subtle change from the front. Most of the change is inside my mouth and with my profile. Anyway, gap is ready for the implant.

So altogether it was a profitable day and the cherry on the top was my long awaited for thermometers arrived from Makro. Only took 6 or 7 weeks. 😏 They are both ear and forehead laser thermometers and were less than R500 each.

I did no work today and now it’s weekend. 💃
