What You Read Is What You Get!

Today took on the flavour of a regular Monday.  With Lynwen no longer on Rise and Shine with me, I have Preston in her place….well that’s on a Monday & Friday. I will soon remember to take a photo of him. Hugely easy going, yet seemingly serious, I am still getting to know him. I opened this blog site to show him the photos of Betty’s Bay. He started reading some of my blog and his eyes widened! For the first time I SAW someone’s reaction to what I had written. It was the strangest thing.  We are all different! My anecdote of the other morning of saying to Mike ‘what time is it?’ really flummoxed him! 6am and we’d be guessing the time! Ha ha! 🙂 I suppose that is way out of the parameters of what some people may do. I think it is particularly confusing to single people. They can’t imagine what conversation they may have with a husband or wife early in the morning until they are married. But, believe it or not, married people do talk. When you live alone and are single, you don’t generally have too many conversations with yourself!

When it comes to what I blog about, I do think about what I’m writing, but generally, I write as I think.  I type very fast, so the words tumble onto the screen as they are coming out of my head! I guess that is why I go back and carefully read what I’ve written to check for spelling or glaring grammatical errors. I seldom read it out aloud when I’m checking so sometimes it looks as if it’s okay, but in actual fact it may sound a bit clumsy! In the end what you read is what you get!

Most times I blog about what I do each day, which for me at times, seems mind-numbingly boring. People who read blogs enjoy peering into someone’s life and just eavesdropping on their mental conversations. It’s amazing how similar we all are! I would feel very out of sync if I didn’t blog. Somehow it keeps me focused on doing something useful in the day. In some strange way it keeps me in touch with what I’m doing with my life. If I don’t blog I may lose track!! That sounds a bit senile, but I think it has something to do with how fast time passes by and blogging slows it down a bit.

Anyway, today was busy in the morning and slow in the afternoon. I did music prep, shopped, did show prep, cooked dinner and have put Granny to bed. She has had a bit of unusual behaviour today, but at 87 1/2, anything goes, right?! Right!

Always looking for inspiration for the show, I picked up this book…

It’s one of many books of Spurgeon’s Sermons and makes for such interesting reading. This is the title page…(*thanks Julian!)

He was a brilliant writer and so very encouraging. Articulate, concise and clear, Bible based, he had a formula that kept people coming back. I love this quote of his:

“You say, ‘If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.’ You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled.”

I am sure he had Philippians 4:12 in mind:

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”

Moral of the story – be content with what you have! 🙂
