Visit to the Surgeon

Tuesday

Today was the day…

I went to see the surgeon. This was actually the pre-op visit. The next time I see him should be just before 8am on Wednesday 17th June when I greet him groggily from my pre-medicated state.  I asked my questions and he put my mind at rest of a few issues. I wasn’t sure of the certainty of the surgery. With more than 50 000 Covid cases in the country, most in Cape Town, I was unsure whether the hospital would stop elective surgery. He said nope – they are open for business. The hospital is very quiet and it’s probably the best time to have the surgery. He usually does 4 or 5 operations on a Wednesday morning. That Wednesday he only has me. So he has to stay Covid free. He said he has regular tests. I have to stay Covid free. I have my test on Friday. Friday is quite a busy day as I have to see the orthodontist for X-rays and for him to take off whatever orthodontics need to be taken off. Then at 1pm, I’ve got my Covid test and at 2pm, in the same hospital, I’ve got a CT scan of my maxilla.  Then I’ve got to stay pretty low key and away from too many people until the op.

The surgeon also put my mind at ease in regard to the recovery. Yes it will be uncomfortable but he’s done almost 9000 of these operations so he’s got it down to a fine art both in theatre and afterwards. He does not anticipate any complications. It was all reassuring. I should be able to take a week off and then get back to normal sans normal food. That’s a different story and no doubt one I’ll write about when I am to blogging. I’ll most likely take two days off the blog at least. They say the 3rd days the worst, so we’ll wait to see.

My new tenant for  the flat asked if she can move in on Sunday. So, we have to move a bit to finish up there.

Werner worked hard today to baton down the hatches at Echo. A cold front is on our doorstep…

So he’s boarded up most of our floor…it looks like this from the patio…

This is from the stairs…

Then this is standing just above looking down….

We scrambled around the back of the house and in through another entrance on the protected side. This is the view from the entrance. All the windows are boarded up but the balcony entrance isn’t.

It’s amazing inside. Once the weather returns to normal, Werner will cut out the windows and hopefully the window company will deliver and install our windows next week.

And so tomorrow is another day.
