Tuesday
Today was quite a busy day. We woke quite early, badgered by a fully recovered Truffles who pleaded persistently for food. I did some work and then went to gym.
When I got home, Mike was on the phone to the engineer. While he was speaking to the engineer, the gardener (unexpectedly) arrived. He wanted work, so I let him in and he set about cleaning up the garden.
Mike finally got off the phone and caught me up with what the engineer said. He has got to have quite a memory to try to remember all the different clients he has and all the different builds involved.
I did a little more work. Then Riana came round for tea. Simultaneously, the builder called to ask if he could come round, which he did. He had a long meeting with Mike and that was where one of the ‘downs’ came in. Mike had designed a basement studio and had just got it right. Werner blew his plans apart and said it wasn’t going to work because it had retaining walls on just about three sides. It’s not called the basement for nothing. We drove down to the site so Mike could take a few measurements…
The hole is getting bigger…
Anyway, by this evening, Mike’s adjusted his expectations and worked around the retaining walls. That’s an Up!
The wall in the above photo is the back of the basement. We have come a long way since the land surveyor first visited on 14th March….
This was today…
The other downer is that all these little changes Mike is making to the plans are not without penalty. The council apparently penalises changes to approved plans, so we have to bear that in mind. We’ll have to take it on the chin! We had a long chat with Werner about the next steps. Hopefully our signed plans will be out of council by the end of the year. Meantime, we’ll continue stabilising the land and build up the columns.
It’s important to not sweat the small stuff. One day we’ll be looking back at these photos in amazement that we ever did this. Every house you drive past starts with bare ground.
2 Chronicles 6:40
O my God, may Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to all the prayers made to You.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
Gym:
I did the Grid again. I came away so amazed. I think the last time I did the Grid (apart from yesterday) was more than three months ago on July 23rd. When I did it then, I remember thinking I can’t do that again, but somehow from then to now, I’ve got a little fitter and have managed to do it twice in two days. That was an Up. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow to make it three in a row.
- 30 minutes on the treadmill
- 5 minutes on the bike
- 30 minutes Grid
- 5 minutes cycling to cool down
