Sunday
Today was the day…
We woke up above the clouds. The mist rolled in but was lower than our house. We had cloud below and blue sky above. By the time we walked down to the beach, the mist had melted away and the sun had come out. To our surprise, there was red tide at Fish Hoek and it had come pouring in with the tide.
When we got down to the beach, the tide was super low, but the sludge was left behind. This is Skellies…
And this was under the subway! Ugh.
Needless to say I veered away from the cat walk side and swam to beyond the lighthouse. Mike jogged down to the lighthouse at the end of his run and had a swim there while I swam back. I thought the water was colder than yesterday but it may have just been the air temperature.
After getting home, we had breakfast and then had a chat with the Swellendam family. David joined us.
I did a bit of work before Mike and I went out for the afternoon. We decided to go and walk in the forest at Constantia Nek. It was lovely. The rain hadn’t yet arrived.
Then we crossed the road to the restaurant at Constantia Nek. The last time I was there was for my 21st! Yes, that was November 1985! So we walked in and it has changed vastly! So we did not stay. As Mike said, “It was thumpity thump with beer flowing”.
From there we went to Hout Bay and ended up at Chapman’s Peak hotel where Mike had the pasta and I had a Prego roll. My Prego wasn’t bad. Mike wasn’t wild about his pasta.
We left Hout Bay and headed for Sea Point. Mike wanted ice cream. We ended up going into the ice cream shop…
But it was part of a bigger market-like food emporium. It was over crowded, most people mask-less and Mike and I were the oldest by about 30 years! It was like a different country. And the price of the ice cream was also foreign. We had a scoop each and then went to a place we spent many pre-marriage hours. Before we married, Mike lived at the YMCA on Queen Victoria Street (now demolished) and I lived at Somerset Hospital Nurses Home (now looking very run down). To get some alone time, we used to go and watch waves at Granger Bay, so we went there and ate our ice cream!
35 years ago, we could never have predicted we would come back today. Some things haven’t changed and this view is one of them.
We then drove home, grateful to live in Fish Hoek. We don’t want to live in Hout Bay. We don’t want to live in Sea Point. We want to live in Fish Hoek! We arrived home just before it began to rain.
It was a lovely day. Tomorrow is our anniversary!
1 Timothy 6:7-8
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
