Think About This For a Moment

It is an amazing thought, yet one that I have only applied my mind to most recently.

Throughout my life on earth, I have enjoyed looking up at the night sky, admiring the vast canopy of stars above. The universe is so big and we are so small.

But this last week Mike raised the topic of how far we are to the nearest star.  It is a number beyond my understanding.

Proxima Centauri  is the nearest star at an incredible 4.24 light years away – that’s 40 trillion kilometres. To give you an idea of how far that is, it’s best to know how long it will take you to get there.

Bearing in mind that the earth in Biblical terms is about 6000 years old.

At a maximum speed of 28 300km/hour, it would take 165 000 years to get to the nearest star.

And yet they are our companions every night.

It is just amazing how big the universe is.

I marvel at God’s creation – at what He has done. How He spoke the word and the world was created.

Genesis 1:16-18

God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.  God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

Just like that – sort of a by-the-way comment – “He also made the stars.”

I remember when David was a tiny tot and he used to watch cartoons on TV. One day he said to me, “Mom, did God make the stars?” “Yes,” I replied. He continued, “Did He have a wand to make them with?”

He had seen the end of the cartoon when the closing sequence would be the flick of a wand and stars would appear.

God didn’t need a wand. He just spoke.

“Let there be stars.”

And about 1 billion trillion stars appeared.

That’s God’s abundance for you!

God exists.

To know that for sure – just look at the stars.

# 64 of my 1000 thanks is for the night sky and the abundance of stars.

# 65 of my 1000 thanks is for socks. Last night  I was already in bed and Mike came upstairs – I said, “my feet are cold.” He got me a thick pair of his socks. I appreciated them!

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
