These Are The Days!

It’s something that we have just got to remember: These are the days. One day we will look back on them and say, “those were the days.” These are those very days. We must make the most of them.

So my whistle-stop trip to Jo’burg went off without a hitch. I have learned, thanks to Julian, that the best seat in the aeroplane is 2F.  It’s front left by the window. You pay extra for it, but it is worth every single cent. Lots of leg room, quick entry and exit and spectacular view from the window. It’s never going to be easy to get a really great photo through a thick plane window using a cell phone camera, but you get the idea from this attempt…

Another reminder of the beautiful land in which we have the privilege of living. These are the days.

What was fun yesterday, was that Julian was in Cape Town, while I was in Johannesburg. I sat in 2F coming home. He flew back to Joburg on the seat I vacated! I left him a note, tucked under the neatly crossed seatbelt. I left him another stuck with press-stick under the right armrest and I left a packet of nuts paper-clipped into the on-flight magazine! He got all three!

While away, Mike got stuck into sorting out decades of paperwork. Today he presented me with about a 25kg bag of paper and the shredder and I started working through it. I cannot complain. He has broken the back of an awesomely horrible job! If all I need to do is shred, I can do that. In doing so, I came across a couple of things.

My amazing daughter displaying her technical skills at age 7. Scary that this was 21 years ago. Yip – those were the days.

And then these…old receipts of David’s school fees….14 years ago…

David school fees 2002

Those were the days. But while I loved having my children at that age, I’m glad we no longer have school fees!

The truth is in 14 and 21 years time, we will look back at 2016 and say, ‘those were the days.’

These are the days.

I will hop out of bed in the morning and embrace the day. I will appreciate what I have and will try not to complain. I will enjoy the weather, regardless of what it brings. I will count my blessings. I will name them one by one. I will acknowledge what God has done.

Colossians 4:6

Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

If the season you are going through is a tough one, make a list of all that is good….count your blessings. God has not abandoned you. He still has a plan. The best is yet to come.

Our hope is not based on what we have here and now. Our hope is based on what is to come.

Edward Mote lived from 1797 – 1874.  He wrote:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

These are the days for that reason. We have a solid Rock in Whom we can trust.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
