Theewaterskloof Dam Picture

With the massive drought in Cape Town and the dam levels at their lowest in 34 years, I thought I would put up a photo I took of Theewaterskloof Dam as the plane flew over it on a trip out of Cape Town on 22nd February 2017. In this picture you can see the extent of the drought and just how low the water level is. All the sandy area is usually covered with water.

When trying to ensure it is Theewaterskloof, I found a drone video of it a month before this picture was taken.

It just is a reminder to keep saving water. Our ‘sailor showers’ work so well. We turn the taps on to warm up, catching the cold water in a bucket. As it gets warm, we spend about 30 seconds getting wet. Turn the tap off. Soap ourselves down. Turn tap on. Rinse off.

Job done.

A dramatic event that happened on Friday was when David was bounding up the stairs where he lives (which is also where Julian lives when he comes to Cape Town). The stairs go from street level, then turn sharp right angle left. As David got to the corner, he came face to face with what he thinks is a Cape cobra. He first thought it was a puff adder, but after checking online, he identified it as a cobra. The snake had heard him coming, so by the time David turned the corner the snake was fully hooded but had turned away from him and was moving on up the stairs. David, of course, withdrew round the corner and when he looked again, it had gone.

The mountain is right behind the house, so I guess there are lots of snakes around and with the lack of water, maybe they are coming off the mountain in search of it.

My complaint against snakes is not that they are there, but that they are completely inconsistent (and inconsiderate)!  I am so keen to get a photo. If I knew they would be there, I would be prepared, but when they do suddenly appear, they leave quickly and there is just no time to get the picture!

I am more cautious now when visiting their house! 🙂 This is the very mountainside we hope one day to build a house on….we will need to be aware of the other residents of said mountainside!

This morning in my Bible reading, I read one of my favourite verses,

Psalm 48:14

For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.

Whether there is drought or snakes, God will be our guide even to the end.

#222 of my 1000 thanks is for the endorphins that come with exercise. Always feel so good afterwards.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
