Monday
Today was the day…
We had a last minute booking – and I mean LAST minute.
Rain came in …a heavy band of rain blew over Fish Hoek; winter struggling to let go. It rained on and off for most of the day.
Guests in the Little Lookout and the Cottage – checked out. Both parties scrambled down wet steps, waving, leaving whatsapps and saying their goodbyes. I went to both units and stripped the beds. The Cottage linen I put in the cottage washing machine and started it. The linen from the Little Lookout, I put in our washing machine but will put it on tomorrow.
We had dinner and were in the lounge chatting to David when we saw a majestic rainbow. As I took a couple of photos, I noticed an email come in with a new Airbnb booking. Yay! I went to my computer to look. By now it was about 5:35pm. I saw…
I quickly sent the guest a message with my cell number, asking him to send me a Whatsapp when he’s close by. Mike and I rushed down to the Little Lookout and got the bed made up. Fortunately, the guests that left this morning left it sparkling. I just had to make up the bed and clean the bathroom. 20 minutes later, I got the Whatsapp: “I think I’m here!” I went down to the street and yup, my guest had arrived. We let him in and left him with the key. He said he had tried to get on a flight back to Johannesburg tonight, but it was cheaper for him to stay two nights in Cape Town and fly out on Wednesday. I didn’t realise I had the ‘last minute’ setting on the Airbnb profile for the Little Lookout. I could change that, but I don’t think I will. On Wednesday, when this chap leaves, I’ll be sure to clean it and put new linen on immediately. I quite like having a last minute room.
Today, we voted. It was quick. We got there at about 2:27 and were out about 20 minutes later.
Another highlight of today was a majestic mamma whale and her calf. I watched them glide by in very still sea. Massive giants of the deep just gently breaking the water…you can see how long she is. They are still so elusive, but I’m seeing a few more these days.
I am gearing myself up for a very busy working November. My work is going to another level and I’m bracing myself for many more hours sitting at my desk.
Isaiah 40:31 couldn’t be more apt:
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
