Tax Time

Thursday

Today was the day…

I started doing my taxes.  My main bank account is supposed to email me my bank statements and they haven’t been doing so. I get ongoing notifications of my transactions both via SMS and email so I know exactly what is coming and going, but I just don’t get the bank statements. Today I found out I can go to Statement History online and download the ones I don’t have, so I got that sorted. My goal is to have this job done by the end of the week.

It was a quiet work day.

We went to Echo at 5:30pm and met Riana there. We needed a third opinion on two issues. One was where to put our Madeira wall tile in the bathroom and the other was which tile to use on the stairs – the floor tile from our floor or the floor tile Julian will have on his. Both look like wood but ours is lighter. Julian’s is authentic wood looking. These two decisions had been a big discussion point between Mike and I, so Riana’s opinion was called upon! In the end we decided that we’d put the Madeira tile (patterned one below) on the shower floor and up one wall of the shower and the plain wall tile on the rest of the bathroom wall.

Mike then took some of Julian’s tiles and put them on the stairs and they looked good, so that’s where they will go. Building a house comes with a million decisions and we are ticking them off one at a time. As I write, Mike is downstairs in his office, designing the main kitchen. His sketch looks like this… the fridge is far right. The stove and microwave far left.

All that is going in this space. The big gap will be the pass-through to the scullery.

As we move through this process, it means we will soon be sending the island and counter-top design to the granite peeps. Remember this? It’s a chunk of Granite we bought on 9th November last year!  We have not seen it since as it’s sitting at the granite company in Athlone, leaning against a wall facing inwards with 4 others behind it! While we have visited it, we have yet to examine it. I’m really hoping it’s in good nick and we can use it.

The other amazing news from today is my sister Anne had an MRI on her liver and it is all clear! While she has a malignant tumour in her small intestine, it has not spread to her liver and for that we are so grateful! She is scheduled for massive surgery on Wednesday next week (19th August)  for a very long operation followed by a week in ICU. We’ll be storming heaven on that day. Anne is strong and resilient – she will get through this and we will be praying for the best possible outcome.

Me and my sis in December 2018 when we celebrated her 60th birthday. Love you Annie.
