Swimming Thro’ Winter

Wednesday

Today was the day…

It rained on and off. At 7:30am, it poured down. Mike pulled the duvet up and snuggled down a little deeper. At 7:45am, I said, “The rain has stopped. Are we going to go to the beach?” And with that I started getting ready. If we say we are going to swim through winter, we have to do it. View from the top step…

The beach wasn’t exactly crowded!

I had my regular 30 minute swim. The temperature was 14.5C, so a little colder than yesterday. Mike stayed in longer than usual. I was on my way back from the barrel when I saw him getting out. When I got to the bench, he was in the changing room. I grabbed my bag and went to get changed as well. When I got out, Mike said he had begun to panic. He had come out the men’s room and couldn’t see me in the water. He began to worry, so he walked a little along the cat walk. I was no where to be seen. He was in the process of thinking the worst,  when he looked back at the bench and noticed my bag was gone. He then realised I was changing. Such a relief!

As we started for home, drizzle began to fall. We passed the aloes…

And up Echo Steps, arriving home pretty dry. One of the neighbours had asked us to have a set of their house keys, so we stopped there and rang the doorbell to pick up the keys. And that was when the heavens opened. We grabbed the keys, rushed up the 83 steps to our front door and by the time we arrived, we were drenched! Nothing that a hot shower didn’t remedy.

It was a good day for  neighbours. Another left their garage door half open overnight. As we left for the beach, we saw it. I dropped them a whatsapp and they rushed down to close it. Fortunately nothing was nicked. They had a bicycle waiting for a taker! The same neighbour arrived this afternoon with coffee beans and marmalade. That’s a good neighbour to have!

It was a good morning of work. Some chores and shopping followed and then I worked for the rest of the afternoon.

This evening Mike and I watched the 1971 version of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. You will find it on You Tube. Quaint!

Time for bed. But before I go, this was my bedroom a year ago!

Psalm 5:8

Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness; make Your way straight before me.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
