Sparrows at the Window

Sunday

Today was the day…

We had tons of birds come to the juice bottle. It was a warm sunny day with very little wind. After our swim and breakfast, I video called with Stacey and Elsie and showed Elsie some of the birds. She is so cute and chats away on the call. She wanted to put her dish in Granny’s dishwasher, which is a bit tricky but it did put me in mind to put ours on, so I stacked it and started it while she watched. She also watched me water  the plants and she showed me her amazing puzzle making ability. She certainly is growing up. I love you Elsie Els!

After the call, I did some beading and was sitting at the dining room table when I heard a tweeting right behind me. There were a pair of Cape sparrows sitting on the windowsill seeing themselves in the reflection and pecking on the window. With the reflection they are not very clear, but I was glad to get this photo. The one on the left is the male – they have the black collars while the females have rusty feathers.

After hanging out there, they both hit the bottle. I got a photo of the male…

There were also bulbuls…

Plenty of white-eye sunbirds  and the long-tailed sugar birds.

The bottle was a popular place today for sure.

We took a little drive later this afternoon and went over Red Hill, stopping at the top to enjoy the view of Simon’s Town…

Google reminded me of what the new house looked like a year ago today. I was so amazed at how much work still had to be done, considering we moved in two months later. Tomorrow, we have been in the house 10 months. This was the entrance… it was a complete mess.

And this was the kitchen…

The floor was done, but little else. A lot of work was done in the two months that followed in order to get us over the finish line. We sure have enjoyed the first ten months.

Today, 15th August is the 13th anniversary of my Dad’s passing. He died in Harare and I found out while I was on air that morning. Fortunately, it was quite close to the end of the show and I was able to hold it together. 76 years on earth. 13 in heaven.

Psalm 71:1

In You, O Lord, I put my trust

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
