This is what 11th April 2017 looks like for me. I’m at Jo’burg airport. I now have a habit of going to the brewery restaurant which is before security. It overlooks the passage along which passengers walk when disembarking. Beyond the passage are glass windows which look out onto the airport tarmac. I sat down and within minutes a massive aeroplane rolled past – quite fun to watch the comings and goings which is why I like to come here. Trust me, it’s not for the beer! This was lunch. I didn’t have breakfast so it was most welcome…
I had what I call a ‘highveld headache.’ I always seem to get headaches when I come to Joburg, so I carry myprodol with me and am now waiting for it to kick in.
My flight is in an hour, so I’ll hang out here for another half hour and then saunter through security and to my departure gate.
This place is buzzing. A plane has just landed and people are walking past, some quickly with great intention of getting to the loo, probably! Others are relaxed and sauntering along – some are whatsapping as they go. Some are already on their phone, organising lifts. Here walks a very tired lady….she probably should have had a wheelchair. It can be a long walk to the luggage carousel. What’s that man carrying? It looks like a painting….wow, he’s got a lot of hand luggage! A lady with a walking stick walks determinedly past. Lots and lots of people now. It must be another plane. People and their lives. We move about this world with a lot of stuff….got to keep an eye on all our stuff….make sure we know where our cell phone, wallet and keys are, laptop, bag and chargers! It’s quite entertaining to watch. In October, God willing, Mike and I will be away for a month. I’m trying to decide if I could limit my luggage to carry-on only! When I come to Joburg, I have a rucksack. It’s so convenient, carrying clothes for the next day, jacket, toiletries, walking shoes, work stuff, my laptop, book to read and my Sudoku book. My little life in a bag!
“Who knew?!” I say to myself. Certainly not me…that this would be my life. I think when people say ‘get a life’ this is what they are thinking of. I’m enjoying my job. I’m finding satisfaction in doing what I’m doing. Perhaps that too is a key to happiness.
Solomon didn’t feel he got it right….he tried everything to find pure contentment and happiness.
Ecclesiastes 2:11
“But as I looked at everything I had tried, it was all so useless, a chasing of the wind, and there was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.”
The secret is to learn to be content.
It is a learning process.
#259 of my 1000 thanks is that today’s interviews are over and I get to go on a plane ride home.
It brings me to the conclusion of today’s written wanderings…my plane boards in 20 minutes and I need to visit the powder room (!) and go through security.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
