Ooooh, I Shouldn’t Have Picked The Big One!

10-45am

This year, I’m throwing everything at trying to lose the elusive 5kg that I have been clinging to me for the last 5 years! I’m aiming at 5 hours of exercise a week, I’m eating Low Carb, but not as much High Fat as I have done previously and I’m on My Fitness Pal, counting calories. Not only do you count calories on My Fitness Pal, but you also get carbs counted, so it’s a good way of monitoring them. Generally my rule is not to eat bread, rice, pasta, potato – overt carbs. My treat of choice is 70% chocolate. When I was on holiday, it all fell apart and I over-indulged in all manner of pastries and desserts which were hard to resist. I didn’t gain weight because of all the walking & exercising we were doing. Now all is back to normal, I’ve weaned myself off the sugar and am monitoring myself closely. But today’s Friday and  I decided to treat myself to my favourite bread carb.

I stopped by a delicatesson (immediately that sounds bad!) and picked up a croissant…I was spoiled for choice. They had no chocolate ones to tempt me so I chose the biggest plain one! (That was a mistake).

I came home, made nice big cappuccino and had the croissant with ham and cheese. It was delicious slightly warmed in the microwave.

CroissantBut with all these things are consequences and when I put what I’d eaten into My Fitness Pal, it came up that there were a whopping 37g carbs in my impulsive Friday treat! Aaaaaaaaah!!! If I had taken a medium sized one, I I would have cut the carbs by about 10g! Hmmmmm! Lesson learnt. Gratefully, I’m going to gym at 11-30, so will work it all off. I’ll have a new mantra at gym … ‘this is for the croissant!’

Talking of carbs, the Daily Mail has just run an article saying ‘Sugar is ‘the new tobacco’: and a UK Health chiefs tell food giants to slash levels by a third.’ You can imagine how sugar manufacturers are up in arms about that…people will be weaning their way off sugar and sugar sales will plummet. Take a look at this table…

I’ve been loving reading through Genesis again. This morning I was reminded of  what I’ve called Real-Time Prayer! Prayer at any time is good, but I think there is a great example in the Old Testament of Real-Time Prayer! Abraham’s (unnamed) chief servant was in Nahor to find a wife for Abraham’s son Isaac. This was a MAJOR assignment. He gets to the well outside the town in the evening, knowing the townswomen will soon be coming to draw water. Genesis 24:12 “Then he prayed,”.… asking God for success, “See, I am standing beside this spring...” His prayer is in the moment. He most probably had been praying about this on the way. Now he is here. It’s happening NOW! He doesn’t want to blow it. Despite all the activity of his 10 camels and the men with him, at the end of a long day’s travel, he pauses to invite God directly into his situation. And then!! Verse 15, “Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came…” You can almost hear the music and see the fireworks! Interesting additions: Verse 45 the servant prayed in his heart. Verse 26 the servant thanked and worshipped God for His answer. God honoured the servant’s prayer. He will honour yours too. Pray to invite God into your ‘happening now’ situations.

God will bless you richly!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
