Labouring Under the House

Thursday

Today was the day…

We did not swim – again! The day dawned WINDY and I looked at the number of rows of waves breaking onto the beach and how far I was going to need to go to get beyond them and I chickened out. It’s like a washing machine in the sea in weather like this. So day 3 passed of no swimming. Tomorrow it looks like the wind will drop a bit so hopefully I’ll get to have a good swim.

To pay for not going down to the beach, I took on the role of labourer. The other day we bought up a whole lot of pavers and they were on the patio next to the section under the house. They needed to be carried to that zone so Mike could use them for paving. There were 53 of them. I carried them up a short uneven path – the route I took…

Pavers stacked under the house…

Looking back from where I had come…

Mike was levelling the spot where he will be storing his tools. The next step was to get the pavers into his area so he could easily lay them. So I carried 53 pavers to under the house and delivered the same 53 pavers to Mike… that involved picking my way down another dodgy bank…

Pavers against a pillar.

Pavers on pavers…

It’s looking mighty fine.

I need to take the final couple of photos, because today Courage cleared a path so you can walk on one level from one side of under the house to the other and all the pavers are down. It looks marvellous.

So in the hour & 10 minutes I was carrying pavers I learned some rules for being a good labourer.

  1. Have the right attitude. I chose to be a labourer and therefore I am not entitled to complain.
  2. Listen to the boss. I don’t know what is in Mike’s mind so I had to listen to the boss and find out where he wanted the pavers, where I could stand and what he expected from me.
  3. Don’t rush. I’m an old labourer so I need to go carefully on uneven ground.
  4. Be invested & do a good job. Initially, I just plonked the pavers down but I realised they may be out of reach of Mike, so I restacked them neatly.

We all are labourers in something.

I need to update a couple of things.

Firstly:

My first international guests are coming. They are Russian and arrive Sunday for 2 weeks – they may want to stay longer.  I only operate through the safety of Airbnb, where I can read past reviews of potential guests. It is safe and verifiable. The couple who are coming have great reviews and have their own Airbnb rentals in St. Petersburg. He was a very nice guy. Main concern – how fast is the Wifi? He connected to our internet, did a speed test and was happy enough. The other thing that impressed him was the blackboard with their names on. He didn’t bring  his girlfriend, so he took a photo of the blackboard. I had written to him to ask for her name. He gave it to me but he did wonder why I had asked. When he saw the board, he understood! He spoke really good English.

The second update is this additional information concerning the car that went over the edge of the Red Hill Rd. To my horror, the female driver of the car spent the night alone in the ravine. She went over on Tuesday at lunchtime and was only discovered yesterday morning. This was the report from yesterday:

Hectic. Amazing she survived. I hope she is okay.

Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
