Hottest Day This Summer

Today has probably been one of the warmest days this summer. It seems the temperature has been up to 34C. After I did a few hours work, we went to Noordhoek Farm Village for brunch…

A beautiful day outside.

Inside it was warm and difficult to concentrate given the heat.

I had a lunchtime snooze and then spent the afternoon working.

Julian headed off to the airport  after a long weekend which has certainly rushed by!  Today felt like Sunday.

He looked up to see how much traffic there was expected on the way to the airport and in doing so asked whether Cape Town International Airport was Cape Town’s first airport. So I looked it up on Wikipaedia.

Opened in 1954, it replaced Wingfield Aerodrome which was the city’s primary landing space. I found this on Wiki:

“In the early days of aviation, all that was required for take off and landing was a level piece of land relatively free of obstructions. Where a flight commenced and ended depended on the weather, the reason for the flight, the mechanical state of the aircraft and even the whim of the pilot. Navigation was done by following a road or railway line and referring to prominent landmarks such as Table Mountain. There were no laws prohibiting low flying or landing within city limits. Places in the vicinity of Cape Town known to be used as airfields included Kenilworth race course, Green Point Common and Green Point Cycle track, Sea Point, Robben Island, Maitland Common, Rosebank Showgrounds and Mr. Young’s farm near Wynberg as well as local beaches”.

It must have been quite a spectacle seeing a plane coming into land anywhere in Cape Town. Of course the skies were not as alive with air traffic as they are today.

Out of my Bible reading, came  Proverbs 11:22

Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

Creative thinking right there!

#238 of my 1000 thanks is work-related. I have a new goal – to get the 30-page documentation pack for each of 24 successful applicants entirely wrapped up by Monday. I’ve got 16 done. 8 to go! 🙂

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
