Monday
Today was the day…
I got dunked by a massive wave! I’m nervous of the waves. Mike not so much. He dives beneath approaching rollers. I try to jump over them! We went to the beach mid afternoon, getting there not long after 3:30pm. Mike decided to go for a trot along the beach. The shark nets were in place so I decided to swim to the blue barrel while Mike was running. Loads of bluebottles had washed up on the beach. When they are around, the water is warm, but they may also be in the water and that could result in a painful encounter.
I put on my swimming goggles and headed for the waves. I was soon swimming towards the shark nets so I could follow the line to the barrel. A set of rollers came sweeping in. Suddenly, I was face to face with a monster of a wave. Slightly out of my depth I tried, unsuccessfully, to stay above it. My timing was wrong and the entire wall of powerful water dumped me unceremoniously into its churning depths, yanking my swimming goggles off my face and rushing them towards the beach. I was stunned at the massive force of the water. It swept me towards the shore. By the time I got my head above water, I was back in the shallows, disorientated, but at least I was right way up! I looked about for the goggles expecting to see them bobbing in the waves but they were no where to be seen. I gave up on them and, not to be beaten, I launched myself back into the waves and swam determinedly towards the barrel. This time, I eyed the incoming rollers with more circumspection and when one looked menacingly at me, I dived beneath it and hoped there wasn’t one to follow when I came up. There wasn’t and I was soon beyond the breakers and was left to quietly edge my way towards the blue barrel. With no goggles to mist up, I was able to clearly see the blue bottles glistening prettily on the surface of the sea, with their dangerous tails sweeping behind them. I gave them a wide berth. The tide was going out and I was pushed easily towards my goal. When I turned around, it was a little more challenging returning but with the receding water, I found myself facing a shorter swim and it was not long before I could feel the ocean floor. Mike had by then, returned from his run and came in for a swim. He found me and the first thing he asked, “where are your goggles?” When I told him, he went to see if he could find them, but no luck. I prayed, saying, “I’d like to find them, Lord. I don’t like waste” but on the other hand someone would score. Giving up, we walked towards our towels and as we did so, right there, in our path, lying on the shore, were my goggles. Thank you, Jesus.
Looks so peaceful…idyllic place for sure.
It was wonderfully refreshing – a perfect remedy to nearly 7 hours in front of a computer. From there we walked to the shops to buy a couple of things and then headed home along the mountain route. Tomorrow, we plan to swim early.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
