Doing Things Slightly Differently

Friday

Dear Elsie

Today dawned surprisingly overcast. The sea was calm and there was very little wind. So I started the day by doing things slightly differently and having my cappuccino out on the balcony. It was a quiet and peaceful time. After a while, I went back inside retreating to my rocking chair. David came up and we had our morning visit with him. Mike and I were debating about going to the beach, but the cloud made us reconsider. I went out onto the balcony again and immediately heard a jet liner overhead. I rushed in to get my cell phone to take a photo. By then it was over the bay.

It was Virgin air on their final approach after an overnight flight from London. They had left 11 hours 34 minutes before. I love watching planes.

With it beginning to drip, we decided not to go swimming but to walk to Fish Hoek for pawpaw (still on the hunt!) Our mission complete, the drizzle had turned to rain. Along the cat walk, the die-hards were in the water….

The nets were being deployed…

The walk home was damp but picturesque –  always something to see even from under an umbrella.

The day turned sunny and fair and the beach was a great place to be. It was good the shark nets were in place as we heard the shark siren go off twice during the morning. We need those nets.

Home for breakfast, happy to have paw paw back in the bowl.

Julian worked too. Someone sent him this picture – perfect illustration!

I took a chunk of the afternoon off. We went shopping and then I sat in my rocking chair doing a word game and listening to (your Mom) Stacey’s live YouTube stream. Such talent!

This evening, I’ve also done things slightly differently. Instead of doing my blog before getting ready for bed, I got ready for bed first and then took my lap top with me. I’m snuggled up in bed finishing it off.

Finally, today I was reminded of where we were 10 years ago today on 3rd November 2013. Florence, Italy! Sunset over the River Arno.

I’m pleased Facebook reminded me of this photo because somehow my blogs from our 2013 trip got lost when we swapped servers. Looking back ten years always reminds me that, like some of the forgotten joys of the past,  the stresses of today will be swallowed up in the years to come.

Isaiah 33:22
For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver,
the Lord is our king; it is He who will save us.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
