Compromise

To be a fly on the wall at our house, you will hear many conversations about what to do build, how to build and the differing options and possibilities. If Plan A doesn’t work out at Echo, we have a really nice Plan B. In fact, so good is Plan B is that it may become Plan A. We’ll wait and see. Meantime, today, Julian and I walked up a few of the steps along Echo Road. One house has about 140 steps going up to their front door with no possibility of a funicular. Another has 100 and they are steep in places. In fact it only take 65 of those steps to get to the back boundary of our property, so our 80 steps will not be nearly as steep. One thing for sure – 80 steps will soon lose their novelty! It will be a chore.  Plan B is smaller and has two complete living spaces with separate entrances for Julian and for us. That could work out very well. His will be at the top with a higher view but smaller in size and with more steps. Ours will be one floor down,  larger in area and fewer steps to get there.

As with so many things in life, there will always be a compromise.  This configuration will work very well. I think Mike is going to get on with that option. This is really putting his drawing skills to the test. He’s so talented! We’ll try get more advice.

Proverbs 9:9

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

Today we had a leisurely lie-in and then met Julian for breakfast. Stag coffee…

At lunchtime, I went to the gym and swam 70 lengths. It was hard work, but to improve, I have to push myself a little.

#686 of my 1000 thanks is for something I take fully and completely for granted. I can read. As I walked into the gym locker room the door has “Push” on it. Imagine not being able to read?

Julian and I walked to Kalk Bay and met David and Mike for dinner. It was a wonderful walk. The sun is setting so early. After the rain the beach was pretty deserted…

This is looking the other way…

With all the rain, the Silvermine River has now forged through the beach and runs into the sea. We couldn’t cross it, so had to walk up it and over the railway line onto the Main Road before the bridge, so we could get over it. By now it was fully dusk and we could see a cigarette being smoked under the railway bridge a very sort distance from where we had to walk.  I walked very determinedly up the dune and over to the railway. Julian followed more gingerly less concerned about the people under the bridge and more concerned about getting his shoes filled with sand! The walk to Kalk Bay is lovely. The new road is broad and the view on the sea-side absolutely spectacular. We really enjoyed it.

Home again, and Mike, Julian and David are all watching a James Bond movie while I am tucked up in bed with a ginger rooibos…

I don’t know where Mike got them but they are great.

Tomorrow, we are doing a day trip to Swellendam, so David and Julian can meet Elsie. Of course, I have to join them!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
