Cats Visit the Vet

Thursday

Dear Elsie

Today I took the cats to the vet. We got them 7 weeks ago today and there is no doubt that trust has built up between us. The other evening, after dark, I went to find Raiku. As I went down the stairs, he started running further down until eventually he hid close to the upper cottage entrance. I went down to the patio and then came back up looking for him. In the darkness I spotted him and was able to pick him up. He’s the struggler of the two. He prefers not to be picked up, yet he not only allowed me to pick him up but he relaxed in my arms while I lugged him up the stairs. Free ride – he knows when to take advantage.

Today before leaving for the vet, they didn’t have a clue what was coming. With it cold and wet outside, they were all cosy on the chair under the table.

Getting them from their comfy spot into the cat box was initially okay until the door of the box broke and Claw’d escaped. I managed to get them both in while we struggled to fix the door, but then they both got out. It was through this incident that I really understood their trust of us. They didn’t run under the bed or go hide. They gapped it but only into the lounge to sit on the carpet and look at us suspiciously. Eventually, we managed to fix the door, get them both in and Mike carried the box down the stairs and put it in the car. I took them to the vet on my own & the entire visit went off without a hitch. I took them out of the box one at a time, starting with Claw’d. After he was done, I opened the box and Raiku gingerly crept out. Claw’d was then very happy to retreat back into the safety of the box. Raiku’s appointment was quickly over & he too was happy to rejoin Claw’d. Paid the bill and within an hour of starting the whole thing, we were home and they were happy. Here they are looking at David…

Well done boys! They have to go back in a month for their follow-up rabies jab.

Today, a friend shared a photo that St Helena Tourism Facebook page had posted of Jacob’s Ladder. Such a good one.

Here’s the write up…

Julian and I climbed it on the day it reopened after being closed for months for renovations. Because we were concerned they would close it again, we did this massive feat at midday on a very warm St. Helena Day. It was really hard work. If you look at the stairs, there is a wall that bisects it and you think, when you get to that point, you are half way. However, another bunch of steps further up, you encounter the half way sign.

That was a disappointing surprise as we thought we were further than we were. View from more than half way….

A good memory.

Last day of the month. Tomorrow September! Spring is coming.

Psalm 145:19
He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
