Thursday
Dear Elsie
Today was the day that featured a cappuccino, a puff adder and a road trip.
Let me start, my darling one, of saying how excited I am to be writing this from your house this evening! Yes, I’m sleeping over. I cannot believe how much you have grown in leaps and bounds over the last few months. Your vocabulary has expanded so much both in English and Afrikaans and you are reading so well.
So our road trip ended here. It was via Worcester because there is a stretch of the N2 that is closed and this was was the simplest. It took us longer, but some of the passing countryside is majestic.
The day began with a swim at Fish Hoek beach. Today was the perfect day for it. The sea was flat and warm…it must have been about 17C. I did a good amount of swimming and it was the best this year, I think. We got home and had breakfast. Then I had to jump to, because not only did I have a meeting, but right after it, we were planning on driving out of town. Mike went out to buy a few things. Courage came in to do something and I mentioned to him that in the three years he has been working for us, he has never made me a cappuccino (on weekends he sometimes is a barista). I said I’d make the shot if he did the milk. He washed his hands and got on with the job…
Voila!
I’m going to be hard pressed not to take advantage of this talent of his in the future!
Courage went back to work and minutes later came back in, “Helga! Are you working?” he asked. “Come and see this big snake.” I went outside and there was a snake I didn’t want to see. I don’t know snakes, so put the pic up on our local whatsapp group for a snake id.
Mike would have known it was a puff adder but he was out. The whatsapp group soon confirmed and I contacted the snake man. He was not available so he got onto the snake catchers group and had someone phone me. Leo pitched up half an hour later…once he lured the snake towards his bucket, it took 10 seconds…
And the snake was in the bucket…
We paid him R300 and off he went to let the snake loose further up the mountain. I hope he doesn’t find his way back. We have been here 3 years and this is the first major snake that has graced us with his presence. Others have been small and insignificant. I don’t want the cats to encounter any snakes. Talking of the cats, David is back home looking after my boys. Claw’d settled down on David’s lap, so David got out his lap top and put on some cat entertainment. Ha ha! Claw’d was taken in…
Too funny!
And so a busy day has ended but it’s great to be with the family for a couple of nights.
Isaiah 28:16
So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.
It’s not about now – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Gran xx 🙂
