Cape Town’s Resident Tiger

4-19pm

Wild life is abundant in Cape Town….what with the sharks and the whales that grace us with their presence, it’s a privilege to also have a few wild cats available in captivity for us to see & learn about. My niece is here from Johannesburg with her boyfriend. Yesterday my brother arrived too. Today, I decided to cash in a Groupon voucher and visit Vredenheim, just outside Stellenbosch to see the Big Cats…

Cat park signThe Vredenheim gardens are beautiful…

Beautiful surroundingsThe cat park is through a small gate adjacent to the farm.  They have a number of lions, a cheetah, a very shy leopard and two amazing bengal tigers. Now my history of tigers goes back to when I was 6 and I read and dreamed about one visiting…

The Tiger who came to teaIt was one of my favourite books, published in 1968 and I think I got it as a gift in 1970 when I was 6! I still have it! Titan, the big male tiger was ready to welcome us at the fence…

Titan waiting for lunchHe was waiting for lunch and impatiently paced up and down…

Tital walking up and downSoon the animal keeper came with a bucket of chicken and Titan’s lady came out to join him…her name is Jessica….

Titan and JessicaEager to eat, they followed the trainer round to their feeding pen. They separate them while eating, so Titan doesn’t get too violent with Jessica! He certainly was in no mood for waiting…

Raw chicken for lunchWe then went to watch the cheetah be fed. No nearly as overt as the tigers, the cheetah, TJ, hung out in the shade until the chicken was thrown in the cage. Then he quickly moved in, picked it up and returned to the shade. Titan looked on, licking his lips, enviously…

Biggest and the fastestIt was the fastest with the biggest, as far as the cat family go.

We then tried to spot the very shy leopard, for whom it was not snack time, so she refused to come out of her catbox! So we went onto the lion, who couldn’t resist coming to the fence to see if the trainer had a bite for him….

It was a fabulous day & worth it.

Genesis 1:25 –

God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

And it was!

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,
