Sharks Visiting Fish Hoek Beach…

2-04pm

It seems our home beach of Fish Hoek has been a hive of (shark) activity this week, with several sightings. As a result, the shark siren, cartoon-sharks-8alerting swimmers to leave the water, has been blaring across the valley. People are not going to argue about leaving the water, regardless of how shallow in they are. The sharks seem to be able to swim at water thigh depth or even lower, if the videos online are anything to go by. I did some searching and found some interesting video & photo footage. This was the latest sighting from Leilanie, taken this morning … notice the eerie shadow on the crest of the wave…

This morning Leilanis photoYesterday, a brief 1 minute video was taken and uploaded. I took this ‘still’ off it…

Shark in the shallows at Fish Hoek Beach

Pretty freaky! But it’s not as if this is a new thing to Fish Hoek. It seems they have been coming in for quite some time. The last shark attack was in 2011 and a few days later, someone filmed this fellow also having a snoop around…

This is a hammerhead shark caught by the trek fisherman – they released it back into the sea…

Hammerhead sharkThe other day I was walking on the cat walk and I wondered what the white buoys at the mouth of the bay are for. Turns out they are part of a whelk fishing project. In 2012, a great white shark was caught in a rope between a whelk trap and one of the buoys. It was eventually hauled in…take a look…

great-white-shark-fish-hoek-march-2012Amazing! So sharks are absolutely part of our lives here in Shark Hoek oops… Fish Hoek, Cape Town!  And I think as time passes, it may be that our finned friends lure more tourists to our shores to try and spot their eerie presence in the shallows of our favourite beach. As for us swimming outside of shark net times… I think not.

Gotta love Fridays! Out of the studio almost directly to our ladies meeting, where we all enjoyed strawberry pavlova…YUM!

PavlovaHebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching

With strawberry pavlova on offer, it’s easy to keep on meeting together! Add a good chin wag, a dose of Andy Stanley and a time of prayer and you come away refreshed!

Stay away from the sharks!

God bless!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
