Cape Directory of 1837

Thursday

Today was the day…

Julian came home with a most interesting book – it is the Cape Directory of 1837. It has such a lot of historic information. It was like the phone directory of the day (except of course there were no phones!). It’s a collection of governors and merchants, medical practitioners and business people – a record of the royal family at the time as well as regular workers such as ship-builders and grocers. So interesting to look through. I took a few photos…

So interesting to read.

Today we swam early. Mike and I were down at the beach just after 7am and were home by 8:15am. The water was slightly choppy but I was able to get a good swim in.

We had guests arrive in the cottage today. The lady arrived early and her partner later this evening. They are here until Sunday. Then to my surprise, I had a Mom and daughter book from Sunday to Friday, so I’m going to need to do a quick turnaround on Sunday. I have extra linen. It takes me two hours to swap out the linen and clean the place, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

We also had a booking for two weeks in February 2022 by a British couple. With flights opening up, international visitors are beginning to book.

And the big news of the day is that I made the Little Lookout live on Airbnb and got our first booking!

The first paying guests arrive next Friday. Courage is starting to tile the doorsteps.

A good day.

Jeremiahs 32:17

Ah, Lord God! It is You who have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for You.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
