I was awoken just after 3am to the sound of breaking glass! I lay in bed drowsy, trying to make sense of it, uncertain if I had been dreaming. It didn’t sound like a window being broken. It was the tinkle of something small breaking. “Did you hear that”? I asked Mike. He stirred. “What”? he asked. “Glass breaking….but not enough to be window.” “No”, he mumbled. “I’m going to investigate”, I said.
Taking my cell phone, I went downstairs turning a light on as I went. I had suspected that a glass had been knocked off the kitchen table. I turned the kitchen light on and immediately saw the damage. So I wasn’t dreaming.
It was a little Delft bowl that we used for putting teabags in when making tea. The remains lay on the floor, along with tiny shards of glass and 2 soggy teabags. The guilty party (probably a stray cat) was nowhere to be seen. I picked up the major bits and put them on the counter. My mind went back to Amsterdam – March 2011 – when I had bought it. Mike’s Mom aka Granny loved Delft and I bought it for her. Soon after we gave it to her, it got dropped and broke into 3. I was upset about that! Mike did a great job in repairing it, but now having flown off the kitchen counter, its days of usefulness are over. It has served its purpose…
Anyway, while I was up, I checked the cricket score and on seeing New Zealand were scoring freely, I returned to bed. Mike stirred, asking what was happening. I told him about the bowl and the cricket score and we slept on.
It may be the end for the bowl, but it’s not the end for us…
2 Corinthians 5:1
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
The rest of the day saw me work for 8 hours and Mike just about finish the painting of the passage and the bathroom. Wow, it looks so much better.
#244 of my 1000 thanks is for that the first batch of painting is complete! Yay!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
