Argus Cycle Tour 2012…

4-25pm

It was an important radio show. Lots of listeners were in the studio watching me present. It was 5 to 8am and I had to read the news. I couldn’t find the news bulletin. The printer was stuck. It was now after 5 to 8 and I was panicking. Finally the printer released and a whole lot of old news bulletins began to spew out. I grabbed the final one. But then I couldn’t find the news jingle. It was so so frustrating. Finally, it worked, only it wasn’t the news jingle! It was my alarm clock – 5-45am this morning! What a relief!! Funny what you dream!  Mike also woke up and I told him about the dream and then sprang into action. I made David a healthy plate of muesli with oats, double cream natural yoghurt with honey, blueberries, raspberries and gooseberries. Yum!

David had planned well and by 6-15am with his bike on the back of the car, the three of us were on our way to Fish Hoek Station. A quick prayer and off he went to catch the 6-34am train! Thank you Lord for answering that prayer. A safe morning biking around the Peninsula, and our son was done and dusted with the Argus for 2012! A job well done on a scorching day in Cape Town. Not too much breeze and it feels as if the mercury has soared into the mid thirties.

Our first stop seconding David was outside Fish Hoek Police Station where the bikes came flying by thick and fast. I think there was a smudge in the middle of my camera lens…but it was a very hot, hazy day…

David arrived at about 9-44am, an hour and 10 minutes after leaving Cape Town…

Mike & I got to work, replacing fluids, feeding him half a banana and Mike smearing more sunblock on his face…

In no time at all he was on his way. Mike & I then walked round the corner to Adrian and Stacey for tea. 🙂 We got home at about 10-45am and I put some lunch on. Not long after 11am, we walked up to near the corner of Ou Kaapse Weg and Kommetjie Rd, our next rendezvous point… here’s Mike waiting for David…

Making good time, David soon came whizzing round the corner behind where Mike is standing in the photo above…..and again we replenished juice…

And off he went…

Adrian and Stacey went to collect him from the finish. He had done 110km in 4 hours and 2 minutes! He didn’t have to stop at any of the official pit stops which were crazy busy, because he had US! 🙂  It’s not only Monty who gets loads of attention.  In fact, I learnt something from David today. A leader knows what he wants and is not afraid to say it. He instructed us to bring sunblock to our meeting points “AND PUT IT IN YOUR HAND,” he said! Ha ha! He seriously intended for us to be ready!

We spent the rest of the day sitting  around wilting, eating ice cream and chatting.  Mike is now taking his Mom for a drive and I am going to go for a walk, I think!

Isaiah 18:4 says: This is what the LORD says to me: “I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”

We’ve certainly had shimmering heat today! And the Lord has looked on from His dwelling place.

Have a great week!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
