A Whisper From God

11-44am

There have been a few times in my life when I have felt I have heard a whisper from God. It has never been audible. It’s always been a thought that pops clearly into my head, like a clearly written message. I remember one when praying for my brother once. I remember another when really going through a tough time and I remember a third when driving over Boyes Drive! That particular thought was a question “Do you think God can speak to you, EVERY SINGLE DAY?” Of course, the answer to that question has to be ‘yes.’ After all, God is God. He can speak to me every single day if He wants to. After I said ‘yes’, the next thought came, “Try Me.” And so I did. In my Bible reading, I started looking for  verses that would jump out at me…that God would put in His heavenly neon highlighters. Well used BibleI do find it amazing that the longer I spend reading the Bible, the more I learn. It’s like no other book. It contains the words of eternal life. In 2007, I went to the Fish Hoek School of the Bible under wonderful people like Liz Kampers & Lisa Gair. 🙂 That year, for the first time since I was a teenager, I read through the Bible in a year. It got me started and the next year, I repeated the procedure and then the next and then the next and then the next.  7 years later, I’m still repeating the procedure! Surely, I would know the Bible by now! How is it that I keep finding new verses that “I’ve never noticed before!” Of course, I’ve read them! But I’ve never understood their depth or their significance.  Day after day, I find significance in the Word of God.

Most days, I write down the verse that has jumped out at me. Along with Job, Psalms & Proverbs, I am reading 2 Corinthians at the moment. Today the verses that struck a chord with me were from chapter 1:19-20. It reminded me of my Dad. I remember once my Dad telling me God never says, ‘No!’ He was determined that God only says, ‘Yes’ and ‘Wait!’ As I have got older, I have heard a number of people saying God says, ‘yes’, ‘no’ and ‘wait’! But 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 refutes that:

“For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silas and Timothy—was not “Yes” and “No,” but in Him it has always been “Yes.” For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”

Paul wrote those words after all he had suffered. God WILL fulfill all the promises in His Word. He says YES every time. So what are you waiting for? Seek His face, get in line with His will, live by His Word and for His glory – it’s not your way – It’s God’s  way. Then you will find Yes every time. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.  People may argue and say, “Helga what about all the suffering in the world? How is God fulfilling His promises in those situations?” In reply, I say this world is not all there is. This world is ‘under the sun,’ where there is nothing new – the real life lies outside of the realm of ‘under the sun,’ where Jesus reigns. Right now, we see in a mirror very dimly. Mirror dimlyThen we shall see clearly. Right now, it’s like the underside of a great tapestry, messy knots and untidy threads. God is working out His perfect will in our lives. We have to keep trusting Him and His Yes for each day of our earthly existence.

These are meaty topics. There are no easy answers to suffering. But we know that God is sovereign and there is far more to this world than meets the eye.  As I also read this morning in 2 Corinthians 2:11  the devil aims to outwit us, but we are not unaware of his schemes.

Listen for the whisper. The best is yet to come.

God bless you today.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
