I love to observe people and especially married couples. It’s always interesting to see how they interact and treat each other. I’ve written before about how I love to watch House Hunters International and see how couples need to compromise. It’s the same with Location, Location, Location. Inevitably, the husband wants one thing and the wife another and never the twain will meet! The ones I love to watch the most are the ones where one of the partners lovingly gives up what they want in favour of the other’s preference. A humble attitude and complete gratitude for the gift that God has given in their relationship. It warms the heart.
I see it too in my daughter and son-in-law. They so appreciate one another. It’s so good to see.
And I saw it in Paul and Nadine. When I was on air on CCFm, PJ (Paul) used to come in and join me every Thursday morning. We spent hours together discussing his future. When was Miss Right going to come along. I was so keen for him to find her. Before he left to relocate to Johannesburg, I said something like this to him: “So I don’t know what’s going to happen with you PJ, but one day, I think you are going to waltz into the studio with a girl on your arm and that’s going to be it. Then I will know it’s happened!”
Well, blow me down if not a year or two later, I was on air with Jonathan Haller (who took over my position and is still on CCFm 6-9am), one morning, when in waltzed Paul with a stunning girl in tow.
My mouth fell open! Jonathan, of course, had no idea of our history and the many, many conversations about this moment!
I was speechless and wanting to be very careful about what I said.
Jonathan not knowing anything quickly put them on air and started asking if this was a relationship and what was going on with them etc! Paul was flabbergasted. He wasn’t expecting that. I don’t think he was expecting anyone else in the studio. Nadine and he had just begun their relationship and it was very new. I don’t think his parents even knew about it. Imagine if they had been listening and the next thing you know, they are hearing their son has a girlfriend!!
They would have been thrilled.
I was.
And so was Paul. Just look what happened! I wrote about it three years ago.
And at the wedding, I took a snippet of video…
I actually have their wedding day noted in my Bible, so on the morning, I sent Paul a whatsapp. We exchanged a few messages and his grand appreciation and attitude of gratitude stood out. “It was worth the wait”, he said.
I replied that that right there is a key to a happy marriage – appreciation!
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
God is the Giver of good gifts. I appreciate every one.
#276 of my 1000 thanks is for DECAF coffee! I still get my coffee kick without the crazy palpitations that were coming with the caffeine! Yay!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
