A Bit of a Bleak Day

Monday

Dear Elsie

You will have days that are a bit bleak. Today was one of those for us. Stuart left for China. David did not. It was always going to be a bleak day. I thought Stuart was leaving tomorrow and only found out this morning that today was the day. I was hoping to get out early for a swim, but just as I was planning that, it began to rain. I did some work and then went for a walk. Autumn flowers.

As I walked, I wondered if David would like to go for a drive with me. I arrived home and as I walked up the stairs, he was coming out. He said he was going for a drive and I told him I was going to ask him if he wanted to go for one. His legs are his biggest issue. Imagine struggling to completely depress the clutch, so he was happy for me to drive. We went up Red Hill and stopped at the lookout.

There are the stairs going up to Just Nuisance’s grave…Julian and I climbed them a while ago. I’m so glad we did.

Then it was onto Scarborough and round to Kommetjie. David wanted to try to walk 250m.

He did it but it was exhausting. He had to sit down half way and when we got home he was finished. He had to stop several times going up the stairs. It’s that hard. This is adversity. It’s not easy but we encourage ourselves it will pass. He will ride his bike again. He will do some of the runs he’s done before. He will get better. It’s just going to take time and how long does not bear thinking about.

Yes, a bleak day today, but it is passing by quickly & tomorrow will be another day. Something good will come out of this.

Psalm 90:17
May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
