Friday
Today was the day…
That…
- Anne rang the bell to end her 9 months of Cancer treatment.
So glad she is through it. It’s been a roller coaster.
2. Today would have been my Mom’s 89th birthday. We are surrounded by a vast crowd of witnesses with my darling Mom one of them. She would have been there cheering Anne on.
3. The sun rose in the most unusual fashion…
It’s not often you can look right into the face of the rising sun but through this mist and cloud, for a few moments, you could.
4. The mist and cloud should have been a hint. Mike and I went to the beach a little later than usual. While the sun had burnt away the mist, the sea was freezing cold. It certainly felt Alpine. Julian took this picture from Simon’s Town road.
As I swam out to the drum, for the first time in my sea swimming life, I wasn’t concerned about a shark taking a bite out of me. My legs were so numb, I wouldn’t have felt anything! I soon adjusted and still spent more than 30 minutes swimming up and down so I achieved my obligatory 1km + swim. The strange thing is that the sea temperature websites say it was not colder than yesterday. I have to disagree – it was considerably colder than yesterday. I guess the only solution is to get a water thermometer and measure it ourselves. Mike found it frosty and didn’t hang about. I had my swimming cap on and that protected me from a lot of heat loss through my head. Once out the sea I washed off with lovely warm water we bought down with us and then we walked home. I had a long sleeved top on and put Mike’s towel around my shoulders for extra warmth.
5. Right towards the end of the cat walk, close to Sunny Cove, I spotted some movement in the bay. We stopped to have a look and right at that moment, what looked like an Orca Whale leapt into the air, spurted water and disappeared. We didn’t see it again, but it sure was for that moment, an amazing whale sighting. I’m always happy to see Orca whales frolicking around Fish Hoek because they keep the great white sharks out of town!
Mike and Courage worked on Mike’s bespoke table for the bachelor. It is looking good…
It’s long and narrow so it can fit beneath the window and 2 or even 3 people can sit one side of it enjoying the little sea view.
It should be finished on Monday. Mike’s a craftsman of note! So much talent!
Today we took Julian to the airport – he goes back to Johannesburg for ten days or so. I like it when he’s here. It’s so quiet when he’s not.
Weekend lies ahead and although Tuesday is a holiday, working for a UK company doesn’t include South African holidays! Although, the blessing for me is that I get paid by the hour so if I work less, the company doesn’t really mind as long as I get the work done. Today, I only worked a few hours.
Psalm 37:37
Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.
The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
