4 Months in our New House

Tuesday

Today is the day…

we have been in our new house for 4 months. It’s been quite interesting because I have been waiting for the honeymoon period to end. Instead, it’s just got better. Mike and I are loving being walking distance to the beach and, despite the 246 steps to get home (equivalent of 21 stories), we have been making the trip most days and sometimes more than once. Today it was blowing gales. The sea was rough and the waves just rolled in. There was no such thing as swimming beyond the breakers, so I decided to leave Mike to his run and swim in the big beach sea and I walked back along the cat walk to the rock pool. The tide was high…I had to keep an eye on it…

The rockpool at high tide is full and deep.

In the wind, it’s like a whirlpool and I absolutely loved it. I swam around and exercised until Mike arrived. He took a couple of photos and then joined me…

It was so invigorating. Home, we shower and then have breakfast before I begin work, but it really sets us up for the day. Mike is living the life he has talked about for the last 20 years, “One day when I’m retired, I’d like to walk to the beach and swim every day.” I’m not sure if we will do this when it’s 12 degrees outside, raining and blowing from the north, but for this marvellous February day, it is enough.

Fish Hoek is a wonderful place to live. The other day one of the residents who live on the cat walk took a photo of an otter on the rocks. Now that’s a rare sight. A black bushy-tailed squirrel has also been seen in the neighbourhood – also not common. Another infrequent flyer is this…I happened to be right in front of the balcony and had my cell phone. I opened the camera as quickly as I could and snapped the photo. This navy/military plane was so low, it looked like it would fly into the mountain. It was flying around it…

Every now and again a SANS Parks helicopter will fly past really, really low, but I’ve yet to get a photo. I was so pleased with this one!

These are some of the unexpected things we never imagined by living here. We look forward to many more happy years.

1 Corinthians 13:7-8

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
