You Can’t Have It All

Monday

Dear Elsie

Today I was reminded that no matter how good life is, you can’t have it all. There’s always going to be something. It came to mind because of Iceland. Iceland, in 2022, was named the safest country to visit. Why? There’s hardly any crime. You can go walking knowing you are safe. There’s a high air quality, safe roads, child safety, no dangerous animals, friendly people and a sense of community. Add to that everyone speaks English. It’s pretty much a perfect place to be.

Except for this:

And this…2000 earthquakes in a couple of days. That’s scary.Volcanoes and earthquakes. Not such a fun environment to be when those natural disasters happen. Last week, the town of Grindavik was evacuated. Today the residents were allowed back to get their most treasured possessions before leaving again. How long for? Who knows? Such a lot of uncertainty in this little piece of paradise. And so we come back to you can’t have it all.

Contentment is learned.

Today I thought David was a tiny bit better than yesterday. While he still said he was really tired, his demeanour was more positive and he was more animated this evening. The other thing we are trying today is we have swapped one of his main pills to the evening. I read some research that said their efficacy may be greater when taken in the evening, so he skipped it this morning and has taken it this evening.

The wind has been blowing like crazy today, but it is due to drop overnight and tomorrow is expected to be warm and sunny – beach day yes. When the wind is blowing, the cats don’t really like to spend too much time outside. They do like to keep an eye on what’s going on outside and my lap in the early morning is a good vantage point. We’ve had them for 4 months.

And that’s Monday.

Isaiah 40:21-22
Do you not know?  Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,  and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
