For those who read my ramblings and who are not in Cape Town, today there was RAIN! It was very welcome. We have two water tanks. One is right outside the back door and we use it the most, so much so that by this morning we had used half of it. The one behind the house rarely has too much water taken out of it, so it is full. Today, Mike ran a hose from the back one to the one outside the back door and filled it up. Now both are largely full. The rain, while light, was welcome and effective in getting water into the tanks. Chapman’s Peak hid behind low cloud. The birds were happy to have seed and juice!
It was wet enough in the city for the third day of the first test match between SA and India being held at Newlands, to be rained out! Bet they never saw that coming! Here’s why every drop counts…
#530 of my 1000 thanks is for today’s rain. Not difficult to be grateful for it.
There was something unexpected I needed to contend with today that has made me think about my gym schedule for tomorrow. I wasn’t just stiff from Friday’s Grid session. I was in physical pain. My ankle and knee joints certainly felt the effect of the lateral running drills and the numbers of squats. I lamented to David it being the effects of exercise and my age, but he said when he does exercise he hasn’t done for a while, he has the same painful effects. I was encouraged by that, but perhaps (after 9 weeks of 6 hours of exercise a week), I need an extra day’s rest. I was also thinking that because I can go any time on a Sunday, I may make the schedule Tuesday to Sunday and take Monday off. Monday often brings with it a lot of work, so it would be helpful to have the extra time. I say that now, but I am a little on the neurotic side when it comes to missing gym. If I miss one, is this not the start of the downhill slippery slide to neglecting it all together? Maybe I’ll go later tomorrow and make it a very low-key gentle workout. I’ll see! You would think swimming would be the answer, but my wrists, elbows and shoulders are all carrying the effects of yesterday’s 20 lengths. The journey to fitness does not happen overnight and these hurdles have to be overcome! I think it will be sensible to miss tomorrow altogether and give my body a break.
So a lot of rest was had today and in doing so I enjoyed a long chat with Stacey on the phone. She is now 21 weeks pregnant and enjoying the process. Such a special time. Now to put in the Bible verse and look what is in my diary for today:
Proverbs 13:12
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
So fitting. A dream fulfilled.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
