2-45pm
Today Granny got into a tizz over a most unexpected thing. Recently the kettle started leaking, so after some weeks, we finally bought a new one. As all the others, it’s an automatic kettle. Fill it up, put it on and it WILL turn itself off. I made her tea and breakfast and a little later on she came into the kitchen and pointed to the kettle. She wanted to know how it worked, so I showed her. “No,” she tried to tell me, it didn’t do that earlier. After lunch she came to me with her hot water bottle saying she wanted it filled. I put water in the kettle and she stood and watched me put it on and then she proceeded to watch the kettle heat up, boil and turn off. She didn’t move, keeping her eye on the switch that would go click to make it stop boiling! When it did, she said, “well!” and then indicated it was very clever!!!!
Adrian and Stacey came for lunch and Stace wanted to find Granny’s old recipe book. It’s filled with old timeless recipes that she wants to use and preserve, so we went across to her cottage (where David is living) and looked in one or two of the cupboards that still contain some of her things. The recipe book wasn’t there, but I was thrilled to find a whole lot of pieces of paper with her writing on that turned out to be prayers she had prepared for her Bible studies some years ago. They were so special and so moving. She was so articulate and humble. I left them there for safe keeping but it reminded me that inside that frail mind and body beats a heart that knows Jesus and that He is with her and strengthens her spirit.
We did find the recipe book in her room. After Granny passes away, that recipe book will go to Monica, but to preserve it and be able to share all its specialness, Stacey has taken it to scan it and make a digital copy of it. Here’s part of one of the entries…
Today I also baked a second Christmas Cake. Here it is out the oven and cooling…
Last night Mike & I went to Live Bait at Kalk Bay Harbour. We had a fabulous time and really enjoyed Yellowtail with roast veg…
Ooh, it was good. And look at this perfect protea which was the table decoration…
And so now the weekend draws to a close. I am drowsy but don’t want to sleep because it will throw tonight’s sleep out, so I think I may go for a walk. Church is at 6pm, so I’ve got a bit of time. The south-easter is joyfully gusting through Cape Town at around about 35km an hour.
Psalm 78:26 He let loose the east wind from the heavens and by His power made the south wind blow.
God controls the elements!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
