Today our street had no water. It was a good practice for Day Zero. The truth be told, we hardly noticed. We already use tank water to flush and we have a few 5 litre bottles of drinking water, so we just used that. According to a message from the ward Councillor for our area, Felicity Purchase, it appears that the people fitting meters yesterday encountered problem shutting off water in the area and decided to turn off all valves until they could stop water. Then they left. They appointed a foreman to retrace steps to get valves on again. I think it is back on now.
This morning, I woke up REALLY early and said to myself, ‘there’s no time like the present.’ Earlier this month I had decided to set myself a goal. By Valentine’s Day (Wednesday) I MUST have completed my tax spreadsheet. Two days after the goal date, I got out of bed around 4-30 am. Three hours later I was just about finished. All that happened next was I sent it to Stacey, she cast her eye over it and did the calculations and let me know the outcome. I then emailed it to my accountant.
Job done!
We met Julian for breakfast at AP Jones where we noticed our regular waitress (Sancha) was limping. I asked her what happened. She said about ten days ago, she left home at 5-10am to meet a friend for a cycle. She cycled from the direction of Simon’s Town towards Fish Hoek. As she neared the quarry, just past Glencairn, she was cut off by a car which stopped in front of her. A man jumped out, grabbed her bike, pushed her off it and tried to put the bike in the car. It wouldn’t fit. He tried to see what else she had, but she had no valuables on her – not even a cell phone, so they jumped back in the car and drove off, leaving her seriously traumatized and with a hurt ligament on her leg. I felt really sorry for her.
After breakfast, I did some work, both work work and house work. Mike went to hit golf balls. When he came home, I went to Bible study where Leanne did a great study on the book of Ruth. A wonderful story.
Home after that, Mike and I walked around the neighbourhood looking for the source of the water issue. We chatted to a number of the residents, which was great. It was good to meet some of them face to face.
When we got home, I went to gym. By now it was 3pm and I was grumpy because I hadn’t been to gym. I cycled 10km in 22:22 which was probably my best ever. Then I swam 40 lengths. I felt really good in the pool, although I’m still slow. I’m getting the hang of it. I’m slow but steady and I’m breathing bilaterally. It’s been less than two months since I got in the pool for the first time, so for me to be able to swim 40 lengths is amazing. With stops, I took 30 minutes. I take 33 strokes to swim a length. I would like to get that into the 20s, but I guess I need to build some strength in my shoulders to that each stroke takes me further in the water. These things take time, so it’s good I have a record of this now, so that I have something to compare myself to in 6 or 8 months time.
Julian will be here in a minute, and we will go walking.
#570 of my 1000 thanks is for water – in the pool, in the tap, in the tank. I’m grateful for every single drop.
Psalm 48:14
God is our God for ever and ever, He will be our guide even to the end.
Amen!
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
