We Lay Down Our Heads Here Tonight

Sunday

Dear Elsie

Tonight we lay down our heads just around the corner from you. We woke up early this morning after a lovely evening with Monica yesterday. She may be not as healthy as she was, but she is still so full of spunk!

By 6:45am, we were on the road out of Port Elizabeth. Our strategy this morning was to take it easy – try to get to Swellendam by 2pm, so this meant regular stops to stretch our legs. Our first stop was Storm’s River Mouth. We had a bite to eat and ordered takeaway coffee and then took a walk along the Storm’s River Bridge, which is high above the river. This is the bridge…

…and this is looking down from the middle of it.

It’s quite a view.

From there, we drove on until Knysna, where we turned off to have a little wander round Thesen Island. We picked up coffee and took a walk to the pier. It was 10:26 and a group of 7 people were hurrying to the water’s edge. We soon found out why. They all hopped aboard an enormous catamaran and very shortly after 10:30am, they were chugging off for a cruise around the heads.

Thesen Island is lovely. No wonder it is no popular.

We drove on and apart from stopping roadside to change drivers, our next stop was Swellendam &  our meeting point with Adrian, Stacey and you Elsie! We had lunch and you played on the jungle gym. Then we went back to your house and had ice lollies. It was so hot – about 32C. All the driving soon began to catch up with me I was so tired & stiff,  so we checked into the place where we will sleep tonight. It’s a little garden suite on a berry farm. The WIFI is great and it has an air-conditioner. With it now being close to 6pm, it’s slightly cooler outside and I’m sitting on the little veranda with this view before me.

I’m hoping to go for a walk next.

Psalm 43:2
You are God my stronghold.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

Gran xx 🙂
