Today has been a productive day, albeit a day that has at times had me ‘out of kilter’. Mike turned the municipal water off coming into the house last night to stop the leak. So we had no water, apart from buckets of tank water which we used for flushing. We had stocked up on bottles of drinking water. Then this morning when we woke up, the power was off. No electricity. Something had happened at the Sun Valley substation and chunks of the area were without power. No coffee. No charging of cell phones. No internet. And until Mike turned the water back on, no water. No wonder I was feeling out of kilter. I drove to the garage to the Vidae cafe to get coffee. After a Grande, I was buzzing, so decided to go to gym.
Right after I got home and had washed, I headed off down to the mountainside house. People were coming to take away more of the chips that I posted about yesterday. They came! One couple came three times. Another came twice. Another came with a bakkie. She worked hard filling two buckets, taking them down the 24 steps, emptying them into her bakkie and then going back up to repeat the process. She sent me a photo of what she did with the stuff…that was a lot of hard work.
Tomorrow more people are coming, I hope. I really hope for the pile of wood chips to be gone by the weekend. I think there could be about a third left. There is a Dad and his daughter that are particularly enthusiastic. Maybe it’s because it goes for R40 a bag and I’m saying, “please come take it way!” They are stunned that I’ve not had people coming in droves.
So while I was at that house, enjoying electricity, Mike was sitting back at home, working off his battery, waiting for a courier to do a delivery and waiting for the electricity to come back on. While he waited, he did some investigation regarding the leak and found that it was from the solar geyser we had installed on 7th March 2012. This was what it looked like the day we got it…
So we will have to have AGS solar come out and fix it. I hope they are still around. Meantime, the courier did the deliver. The electricity was still not on (now 12 noon), so I suggest to Mike he come join me. I had done a whole lot of work, including an hour-long Skype call, so I was feeling quite chipper!
Mike arrived and David did too. He had a rehearsal on, so Mike and I had tea and left people bagging wood chips and went shopping. When we got home the electricity was finally on! Yay! By then we were starving, so I made a very late lunch.
#485 of my 1000 thanks is for the new day dawning in Zimbabwe. Hopefully, given time, things will start improving. I read a funny thing on Facebook today. Someone had posted a joke: “Just heard now that there are South Africans crossing the border into Zimbabwe illegally.”
If Zimbabwe is stronger, we will be stronger.
2 Chronicles 7:14
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
