We All Need Second Chances

Mike & I were on our way to the beach. Suddenly, very quickly, and unpleasantly, the conversation turned negative and we both spewed a whole lot of horrible words. It was ugly. Very. Ugly.

I was ticked off. So was he. I got out the car at the beach and stormed off to have a swim. I was going to swim and swim and swim. I would be in that sea all flippin day….I was going to stay far, far away from my horrible husband.

We were both pretty awful that day.

But the wiser, bigger hero would step forward.

Mike waded towards me. I pretended not to notice and swam away from him. Eventually, I could go no further and I tried not looking in his direction. He continued walking towards me.

Awkward.

Saying nothing, he took me in his cold wet  arms and he hugged me.

Then he apologised.

Then he said, “Let’s forget everything that was said in the car. It never happened.”

DONE!

Immediately we moved on, kissed salty kisses and made up.

He changed the day. We had a do over.

It is amazing how a do over can change everything.  We all need second chances and when offered them, we need to take them with both hands, relish the opportunity, embrace the other and move on.

While I remember the occasion, I cannot remember what we were arguing over or what the horrible words were. I just know it happened and that the do over did the trick in changing the day – quickly burying the conversation so it didn’t become a future issue.

Jesus gives a do over.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

That’s the best do over of all.

It’s an eternal one.

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
