7-16am
Yesterday afternoon, Mike went to the Clovelly driving range to hit some golf balls, so I took advantage of the opportunity. He dropped me at the intersection of Clovelly and Main and I marched enthusiastically to Kalk Bay. But my plan was not to walk along the sea front, but rather above the sea. I briskly walked up Boyes Drive. The first part is by far the hardest. It’s very steep, but it’s not long before the magnificent views begin….
The world unfolds below – lots of cars, children laughing, trains passing, TVs blaring, people visiting the harbour, boats and fishermen and holiday makers and day trippers, beach goers and browsers all enjoying a superb sunny Saturday afternoon. Walking is a great opportunity to ponder & pray…
If you are planning to walk alone, make sure you keep to roads where there is regular traffic. Street walking is a great way to get some exercise on your own. Boyes Drive has plenty of passing cars and plenty of space for pedestrians. It passed a few other walkers, but it was far quieter than the down on the Main Rd. After a wet winter and surprisingly rainy summer, there are still waterfalls on the mountain side…
I walked past hedges and fences…
And the view got better the higher I got…
The plan was that I would walk for 40 minutes, then turn around and walk back. After 40 minutes, I was very close to the shark spotters lookout, so I pressed on…
Until I got to the shark spotter’s hut…
Then I turned around and started back, eventually arriving at the Main Rd & Kalk Bay harbour entrance…
Onto Clovelly, where it was so quiet, I could hear the footfall of my now, very tired, feet. After an hour and 45 minutes of brisk walking, I arrived at my destination…
And I had enjoyed Every. Single. Step! I’ve got plans to do it again! How’s it possible for a street walk to bring so much pleasure? Some of the best things in life are free! To really be above the world though, I need to climb the mountain that goes from the start of Boyes Drive up to Echo Valley and down to Ou Kaapse Weg. That is for a cooler day with 4 or 5 hours to spare.
Life barrels past at an incredibly fast pace. Last year, I spent 5 months planning our November holiday. It was over so quickly.
James 4:14 has a sobering thought…
How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog–it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.
Make the most of every day!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
Gratitude Pic…good reflections of our Italian adventure. Legend has it that Shakespeare had this balcony in mind when he wrote Romeo and Juliet….we stood below it, with several hundred others, crammed into the courtyard on a warm Friday afternoon Verona, Italy- it was 1st November 2013!
