Two Really Cool Events

Today was a busy day, hence the lateness of the blog. Actually it will be divided in two as I had two really cool events that are worth splitting over two days.

The first was a visit with a friend who goes back to my teen years. The second was 18 holes of golf at Steenberg Estate.

I got a message the other day from Rowena Beale (better known as Weans!) to say she was in Cape Town for a wedding and would love to catch up. Today was the day! We spent a lovely morning reminiscing and catching up on family and friends.

I met Weans when I was in my teens. Her parents were always hospitable and I have spoken about her Mom, Aunty Wyn on this blog before. I’ve often fondly referred to her as my other mother.

The Beales had a huge impact on my life. Weans is 2 years old than me, but when I was 16 and Weans was 18, she seemed a lot older, wiser and more mature! 🙂 When I moved to Cape Town to start a career in nursing (in 1983), the Beales had settled in Somerset West. Their home became my second home. They took me in and I spent many, many weekends with them. They always were so warm and hospitable. They saw me grow up, get married and have Stacey and David. Many years passed and eventually Aunty Wyn and Oupes went back to England to be closer to Weans who was also living in the UK. Not long after they arrived in England, Oupes passed away. In time, an opportunity arose for Weans to move to Sydney, Australia. Aunty Wyn stayed in England for a few more years and then with 3 of her 4 children now in Australia, she moved down under as well. That’s where she is today. Time has passed and in November, Aunty Wyn turned 94!

It was so good to see Weans. What I also loved is that she gave me Aunty Wyn’s phone new phone number so I can call her soon.

#136 of my 1000 thanks is for decades long friendship with a wonderful family. 🙂

This morning I read Psalm 139. Such powerful words – here are the first 5 verses…

You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.

Don’t ever forget, God is that close to you. He sees you. He knows your thoughts. He follows your every move. He is behind you, before you, above you, around you. His hand is upon you. You are in His Grip! 🙂

These are the days!

God bless you.

Helga xx 🙂
