Trappieskop Walk from Clovelly to Kalk Bay

This is one of those walks that I have wanted to do for a long time. I’ve seen the silvery path winding up the saddle on the Clovelly path and thought how inviting it is. Today was the day I got to walk it.

I met Heidi in Clovelly and we started up the side of a guest house to the path. The path is silvery by nature of the rocks that line it, making walking easy and well marked…

A gradual ascent soon finds you summit the saddle. On the Clovelly side, much of the area was burned in the latest fires earlier in the summer. The Clovelly community has lost no time on pouncing on the Port Jackson that sprang up with the first rains and have tried to pull it out while its still small. On the other side of the hill, going down to Kalk Bay, the fire missed the path and it is a lot bushier.

The view of Kalk Bay is quite stunning…

It takes under an hour at a steady, but not rushed, pace.

We walked down to the Main Road and settled at the Annex for breakfast. The view is worth the walk…

View of Kalk Bay from AnnexI thought we may walk back to Clovelly along the sea front, but Heidi declared her boycotting of the roadworks and for that reason, we returned the way we came. If you do want to do the walk from the Kalk Bay side, you walk up the start of Boyes Drive, taking care to go up the steps just after the bend (from Clairveaux). Above those steps you’ll see the sign…

The return trip was uneventful and soon the  valley came into sight….

Lovely little walk and one I will definitely do again! 🙂

Talking of hikes, I want to write another blog on the book I’m reading (Life at the Cape 100 Years Ago). “The Lady” wrote an astounding account of their ascent up Table Mountain on 24th October 1861. Imagine what it looked like then! What makes it even more amazing was that they left before 2am in order to be at the top for sunrise! It was full moon. It’s really an excerpt worth sharing and one that had me astonished at the mere thought!  I’ll type it out and put it up tomorrow. 🙂

From my Bible reading this morning comes what some have claimed to be the middle verse of the Bible:

Psalm 118:8

“It is better to take refuge in the Lord that to trust in man.”

Good advice!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
